" THE DROVERS"

This story is about the drovers who had to overcome the problem of the long distance and providing sufficient quantities of food for the cattle. He had to rely on food that could be found along the way. He had to manoeuvring the herd.  Frequently he had to ride ahead on horseback to check the wandering instinct of the cattle. He also had to be particularly careful that the cattle did not stray into private land to feed. Controlling a large herd was a dangerous job. It takes hours to calm and reassemble uncontrollable panic cattle. They also have to cope with bands of robbers who might violently attack him for his money or drive off some of his cattle. He had to have an intimate knowledge of the temperament of his animal to judge how far and fast to drive them. They must not be overdriven for they need to reach their market in prime condition to get the best prices from the butcher.
